Going

….And….there it was….a dodo! A dodo???

TEXT: Wendy went to a window and peeked in. Through a crack in the drawn curtains, she saw the living room. Wendy pushed up on the window and to her surprise, it opened. She climbed through and looked around, hoping the noise the neighbors had complained of had only been the wind. After a minute or two of looking around, there was a loud crash upstairs…up to the Attic she went…

TEXT: “There, I’ve made up my mind,” she said. She stepped onto the boat, and an hour later she climbed the porch steps and put her key in the old lock……Wendy turned the key and waited for the lock to click open, but nothing happened. She pushed with all her weight against the heavy wooden door but it wouldn’t budge.

TEXT: No, Wendy decided, she had a more serious purpose and therefore she would choose to go to Chocomount Cove and check out her family’s summer home. No one was staying there currently, and she had heard that neighbors were complaining about a loud, moaning sound that would emanate from the big old Victorian house at night.

TEXT: Oh, the open ocean! The smell of the salt-sea air! Wendy felt very romantic about the sea. Feeling more spontaneous by the moment, she resolved that she would treat herself, right this moment, to a chartered boat trip out on the sound. (However,) a decision was now in order—should she head for South Dumpling Island or Chocomount Cove? Wendy took decisions very seriously—as a ENFP on the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator, the “P” (perceiver”) part meant she felt more comfortable gathering more information before deciding—as compared to a “J” (judger) who preferred making a quick choice. (Her last boyfriend, Wayne, had been a “J” and it had caused much angst in their short-lived relationship. As Wendy sat cross-legged on a cast-iron bench, on the petunia-festooned deck outside the charter boat office, making her pros and cons list for South Dumpling vs. Chocomount (as her life coach had taught her)—she looked up and a herd of dolphins, arcing across the dazzling blue, caught her eye & her imagination. Could she make play the deciding factor in her decisions—as the totemic presence of the dolphins seemed to suggest?

TEXT: So much water… “I’m in deep water now,” Wendy decried. “Delightful,” she whispered. By the time she was done, she had floated out to sea….

TEXT: “Too many cars on the road,” she wailed into the wind. So she wended her way to the water, wanting to sink her toes in the wetness. Passing by Wes’s Wifi Emporium, she waved from her wonderful VW bug. Wes and Watt waved back, wondering wither Wendy White might be going. SPLASH!!! Sometimes the road to happiness isn’t a road at all.

TEXT: Between the past and the present. Wither? Going meant leaving something behind. Summer voyage. Yes.
